As my move-in date approaches, I keep getting bombarded with one simple question: Why Philly?
Why not New York? L.A.? Chicago? What makes Philly, a somewhat overlooked town in the Northeast, so appealing? This actually isn’t the first time I’ve lived in the City of Brotherly Love. I went to Drexel University for 2 years before transferring to VCU. I only transferred because of the astronomical cost of Drexel, and not because I disliked the university and/or Philly. I always felt like my time in the city was cut a bit short, and I fell in love with it as an 18-year-old.
Fast forward to 2015, and my best friend who lived in the apartment building next door to me in Arlington let me know that they’re picking up and relocating to Philly for his job. Cool, I thought. I haven’t visited in a minute. Since it’s only a 2-hour train from D.C., I had no problems visiting over the weekend.
And that is when I fell in love again. Something about Philadelphia makes me happier. It has a bit of a slower pace than D.C. and a lot less Type-A folks, but it is still an incredibly fun city with tons of charm and plenty of things to do. Not to mention, the incredible food scene they have at the moment!
Anyway, I hope you fall in love with my new city as I share the next chapter with you! I know most of you have known me as a D.C. girl for almost my entire blog career, but it’s time for me to take a leap and make this change. Now let’s hope I don’t tear up at my going away party…
