Ok: so I know that it’s after Labor Day, but it still technically summer until September 22. So that means we still have time to enjoy some summer meals and food pairings with one of the best wines for the season: rosé.
A couple of weeks ago, I partnered with my friends at Fleurs De Prairie and did an IG Live sharing my ultimate cheese and charcuterie board to pair with rosé. I’m breaking down what cheese, charcuterie, and other dishes will pair well with a Provençal-style rosé! If you’re craving a little bit of travel in your life, these pairing options will transport you to Provence!
Best Food Pairings
Best Rosé and Food Pairings: Cheese
If you’re going to pair any cheese with a Provencal-style rosé, I’d highly recommend the Bucheron cheese. This style is native to France and is the absolute perfect pairing for this type of rosé. Bucheron is a delicious goat cheese that has an ivory-colored pâte surrounded by a bloomy white rind — so it has the taste and texture of two kinds of cheese in one!
Another French cheese that would be a perfect match? Brie de Nangis. It’s a milder, buttery brie that is creamy and smooth, and it tastes heavenly.
Other cheeses that could work well? Mediterranean-style cheeses like Manchego, Pecorino Romano, and Ibores.
Best Rosé and Food Pairings: Charcuterie
For charcuterie, I’d recommend prosciutto, which is one of my favorite things to pair with rosé. Prosciutto pairs well with a lot of wines because it’s savory and buttery. Provence and Italy are basically cousins, so that’s why this rosé will pair well with lighter Italian dishes as well!
A few other items you can add to your charcuterie board? Soppressata salami and Coppa. Remember: if it’s Italian, it will probably pair very well with a Provençal-style rosé!
Best Rosé and Food Pairings: Seafood
Hands down, my favorite rosé pairing this season is with seafood. What can I say, I’m a Maryland native!
Overall, a Provençal-style rosé is super versatile and will pair well with a lot of different types of seafood. You really can’t go wrong with most seafood pairings, but IMO, it tastes heavenly with shellfish like crab and mussels, salmon, and tuna.
Best Rosé and Food Pairings: MISC
Provençal-style rosé will go with nearly all of your favorite lighter summer dishes! I also love pairing this with light salads and pasta, and even rice dishes as well. This would taste incredible with a seafood risotto!
Another thing I love to pair Provencal-style rosé with is olives. The tart and buttery flavors of the olives play very well with the balance of fruit and acidity found in this style of rosé.
Some other ideas for your charcuterie board? Marcona almonds, Peruvian peppers, apricots, dried tart cherries, and hot peach chutney.
