Growing up in Texas I was raised on humid summers and heat waves. As much as I love escaping the heat in sundresses I’ve been seeking out a few spring/summer alternatives. I’m sure we all have at least one go-to pair of blue denim or white jean shorts but have you thought about adding something a bit more tailored to your collection? The older I get the more it seems a traditional blue jean look is only fitting for certain occasions. But what about the days that call for comfort yet require a more put together appearance? Adding details like a structured fabric, an intricate patch, or high-rise waist detailing can make all the difference — essentially transforming your typical blue jean look into something fashion-forward, heat approved, and comfortable but still appropriate.
Right now I am on a major Rag and Bone kick. I fell fast for their latest apron-style denim dress (seen here on the blog) and admired the style so much that I went for the same structure in tailored shorts. The pockets are deep, the fit is flattering, and the unique keyhole waistband made them immediately stand out to me. I still have my traditional blue jean styles to wear to the lake, on casual weekends and to summertime baseball games. But I love how these few design details make a simple summertime short instantly elevated.
Always an admirer of the classics, I kept the tailored shorts quite simple by styling them with a fitted cotton top that can also be worn off the shoulder. I didn’t want to loose the detailing of the waistband and wanted the shorts to remain the focal point of the outfit. Not one to shy away from my signature combo of white accessories, I polished the springtime look off with a bright white circle bag and comfortable block heel sandals. This simple style fits right in with my white top/blue denim combo obsession but transforms the all-American combo into something slightly more sophisticated.
