Reliable Winter Basics

ALC Sweater | Stuart Weitzman Boots | Rag & Bone Denim | Maje Coat (similar) | TOPSHOP Beret | Maje Suede Bag (Similar – Sezane)
As eager as I am for spring, we still have quite of bit of winter left before us. I’m all for a good trend and standout staple, but more often than not It’s my basics that end up pulling the through, time and time again. From a sleek simple sweater and OTK boots to classic jeans, and a sleek black overcoat, I’m breaking down all of my most worn pieces (many of which are on sale!) to brave the rest of winter in a reliable fashion!

I have SO many sweaters but always find myself reaching for this comfy-chic ALC style over and over again. Mostly because it’s extremely comfortable, and let’s be honest when it’s freezing outside, my main priority is staying cozy. But the open back detailing gives it a little character, making me feel elevated even when I’m bundled up. It’s been sold out from several retailers, but I finally found it on sale (40% off!) in both GRAY & BLACK. It’s super understated which is nice for a piece that you want to be able to wear over and over again + pairs well with blue denim, black denim, and even white when transitioning into spring!

There is no winter shoe I wear more than my over the knee boots. I love how sleek they are, along with their ability to amplify my most mundane looks. I find them way warmer than any other shoe. I’m quite dramatic in the cold and tend wear ski socks on the reg, another reason OTK boots are my fav – they do a great job at covering up tall socks!

For so many reasons I am thrilled the skinny jean trend seems to have died down, but despite the shift in the denim department, there’s still a need for a classic blue pair to style with all of winter’s taller boots. I’ve had this pair from Rag & Bone for ages. I’m just about due for another, but love the blue wash and high waisted fit. I think my next pair I may go even higher with the waistline, but I’m linking these and some of my other top contenders below!

Camel Coats have taken my top tier position this year, but a classic black wool coat is always necessary. As much as I love wearing a standout top layer, black coats are always appropriate and ALWAYS go with everything. The best part about them is their undeniable timelessness. Find a really classic fit and it will last you years on end. I purchased this Maje style years back when I first studied abroad in London, yet 5+ years later it’s still going strong. If you want a true investment item it’s better to spend a bit more, but I’m linking lots of options for all price points below!

To feel my best when sticking to basics, I’ll polish them up with a trend or two. This year has been all about the Baker Boy hat and the beret, so I’ve been alternating between these two hat styles frequently and adding a bit of texture to the whole look by throwing in a suede handbag. A few accessories always do the trick!
