Habitual Arietta Wrap Top, Joe's Jeans Charlie Ankle High Rise Skinny Ankle - Happy Hour Uniform styled by popular DC fashion blogger, Alicia Tenise
In true Alicia spirit, one of the reasons why I love spring the most is all the al fresco dining options. Once a patio or rooftop opens up for the season at my favorite restaurants in town, you bet you can find me there until October. As soon as I get a rooftop happy hour invite, you bet that I’m going to grab my favorite high waisted jeans and crop top combo and rush out of the door!

When it’s spring, and the weather’s a bit unpredictable, I have a foolproof Happy Hour uniform that’s perfect for any outdoor happy hour I attend: the high-waisted jeans and crop top combo. If it’s chilly, I can layer a cute jacket over it, and I can also dress down the look with a pair of sandals if I’m attending something low key. I personally think it’s too hot and humid to rock skinny jeans during an East Coast summer, so I’m busting out my new favorite white jeans from South Moon now while it’s still pleasant out (and yes: you can definitely rock white jeans before Memorial Day!)
What are some of my favorite outdoor happy hour spots in D.C.? Here are some I think you need to check out!
  • Hotel Hive: This automatically wins for my favorite rooftop bar because one: they have frosé, and two: if you get hungry, there’s an &pizza in the hotel lobby. I did a staycation here last summer, and I’m dying to go back!
  • The Graham Hotel: I don’t go out in Georgetown much, but if it’s a nice day, this is the place to do it. This rooftop fills up fast, but it’s got some of the most incredible views of the city.
  • Biergarten Haus: Listen: if you need a spot to watch the World Cup this year, this is the spot. I could spend all day here (strike that — I think I have spent 8 hours here once, whoops!) If you’re on H Street, I’m also a fan of the Rock and Roll Hotel and H Street Country Club rooftops as well.
  • Pearl Dive: Their patio is tiny, but if you love seafood, this is the spot for you. They have 1/2 price oysters, $11 mussels and a $10 Po’Boy on their happy hour menu which are game-changing.
  • Takoda: You’ve gotta climb a few flights of stairs to get to this rooftop (seriously, this place is massive), but it’s 100% worth it. They’ve got 24 beers on draft and over 50 types of whiskey.
  • El Rey: This place has been a favorite of mine for years. Their outdoor space is open year round (they’ve got heat lamps!), but it’s truly magical when the weather warms up. Grab a margarita pitcher and chill here for an hour or five.
  • Hawthorne: This place is way too crowded for me on the weekends, but for a weeknight happy hour, their rooftop is pretty magical. They also have a solid brunch as well.
  • Masa 14: They’ve got a happy hour every day (yes, even on weekends) from 4-7pm. Not gonna lie, we often end up on their rooftop after a bottomless brunch!
