Ok, ok: I know Dry January is over. But hear me out: mocktails are a great thing to enjoy year-round, not just in January! Which is why today I’m sharing an easy mocktail recipe that I love making.
There are plenty of reasons why you might not want to have an alcoholic drink. And honestly? It isn’t anyone’s business why you may or may not want to drink. For me, sometimes I like to sip on a delicious mocktail when I’m working late. It makes me feel like I’m at happy hour with my friends when in reality, I’m still in my home office trying to write something.
Author Hilary Sheinbaum was kind enough to send me her new book, The Dry Challenge: How to Lose the Booze for Dry January, Sober October, and Any Other Alcohol-Free Month. While I personally didn’t partake in Dry January this year, her book definitely sparked a few ideas. I have started to swap out a nightly glass of wine for a mocktail from time to time and cut my alcohol consumption a bit during quarantine. I found that when I drink a mocktail and take CBD, I’m still able to unwind at night and get a great night of sleep.
Hilary was also kind enough to send a couple of Lyres Spirits to try, which are delicious non-alcoholic spirits. I was shocked at how much they taste and smell like the real deal, but they contain no alcohol and are made with natural flavors, extracts, and distillates derived from fruits, botanicals, spices, nuts, seeds, and other natural sources.
I decided to use one of the Lyres Spirits I received in a mocktail, and it did not disappoint. If you’re looking for a delicious non-alcoholic beverage to enjoy, here’s our recipe for the NA Dark and Limey.
Dark and Limey Easy
I don’t know how Lyres Spirits does it, but this tastes exactly like rum. We also tried their Negroni, and it’s spot-on as well. What I love about this mocktail is that it tastes 100% legit — you really can’t tell the difference between this and a real cocktail!
I love that this cocktail transports me to somewhere warm. I might be physically in Virginia while sipping this, but mentally, I’m on a beach in the Caribbean. It tastes like summer in a glass, and the best part is there’s zero alcohol in it!
