Y’all, this whole post is a mood. What I would wear for New Year’s Eve if it wasn’t 2020 is easily a metaphor for everything I would’ve done this year if it wasn’t 2020. I would’ve have taken more trips, if it wasn’t 2020. I would’ve went to more events, if it wasn’t 2020. I would’ve spent more time with my extended family and friends, if it wasn’t 2020.

I don’t know what I was thinking when I bought this rainbow sequin dress, other than I loved it and had to have it! I knew I probably wouldn’t have an occasion to wear it anytime soon. But your girl is always down for sequins and shine, so I pulled it off the hanger this week and wore it out to shoot this post. I thrive when I dress up, so when I put on this dress, I felt more in my element than I had in nine months. Two people who saw me shooting this dress went out of their way to stop (socially distanced, of course!) to tell me that they loved it
I added my Kendra Scott holiday earrings that say “I’m
here for the party” and slipped into my most sparkly shoes. I went all out for nothing, but it made me feel fabulous.
So, instead of being disappointed that I won’t be wearing this little number out to celebrate on NYE, I’m happy because this outfit gives me hope. While it’s a metaphor for all that didn’t/won’t happen in 2021, it puts a smile on my face every time I see it because I know we’re so close to 2021 and the hope a new year brings. My dress is demonstrative of everything 2020 wasn’t and everything we want 2021 to be. I don’t want to jinx 2021, so we’ll leave it at that, but have hope that bright days are on the horizon!
And at the end of the day, if you want to wear the sequin dress to party it up in your living room as we celebrate 2020 being shown the door, do it! Who cares—anything goes now!
