Bourbon Fig Cocktail

Bourbon Fig Cocktail

I recently shared my recipe for Fig Jam–you can watch me make it here. It’s easy, delicious and a wonderful homemade treat to have in the fridge, especially during this time of the year. Besides the most common uses for jam like for toast, biscuits etc. I’m also a fan of using it to flavor cocktails, like this Bourbon Fig Cocktail.

The cool thing about using jam to flavor a cocktail is how potent the flavor of the jam usually is, thus making its addition to a cocktail a great choice to really get the flavor to come through nicely. Think of it like a simple syrup, except with a simple syrup you wouldn’t have to strain the cocktail mix before serving it, but that extra step is such a quick one that it doesn’t make much of a difference. And note that I don’t use an actual kitchen strainer (although you could!), but instead the cocktail tool strainer that you can buy separately or in a kit with a cocktail mixing glass.

The other reason I like using jam as flavoring in a cocktail is it’s a bit more multi-purposeful than a simple syrup and easier to nail the consistency than a simple syrup. So if I’m going to make something, I’d rather it be something I can get a lot of use with in different recipes and food pairings.

And yes, you can certainly use store-bought jam. However, once you see how easy it is to make your own, you may want to make this cocktail extra homemade and special by doing so 😉 Video on how to make fig jam here.

Bourbon Fig Cocktail

Servings: 1

  • 2 oz bourbon, I used Basil Hayden
  • .5 oz Cointreau or other orange liqueur
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 4 oz fig jam

Place all ingredients into a cocktail glass with ice and stir very well~15 seconds should be good. Serve in cocktail glass and garnish with lemon peel or sliced fig. I prefer this cocktail without ice, but it would be great served on ice too.
